From the title’s official gameplay reveal on May 18 to the announcement that the first sneak peek will include PC play footage, Destiny 2 fans have plenty to be excited about in the coming months before they get their hands on the game. However, the fun apparently won’t stop once Destiny 2 debuts on September 8. Bungie and Activision have announced that a companion art book for the sequel game will be available a few weeks post-release.
Entitled The Art of Destiny 2, the book is set to launch on October 3, a few weeks after Destiny 2 ships out. The Art of Destiny 2 is the “definitive collection for the game’s stunning art and design,” the book’s official description states. Fans can feast their eyes upon Destiny 2 concept art, character sketches, immersive landscape paintings, and more, all while gaining insight into the game design process from the rough start to the final finish.
“The Art of Destiny 2 is a celebration of the dynamic art and visual style that fans have come to love about Destiny,” the description reads. “Featuring hundreds of pieces of concept art, the book covers everything from early sketches and illustrations of characters to paintings of sweeping vistas the designers used to help shape the in-game worlds. Each step of the process is meticulously detailed, from building in-game cinematics to crafting the complex universe. With exclusive, never-before-seen imagery, developer commentary, and more, The Art of Destiny 2 is a must-have for Guardians everywhere.”
The Art of Destiny 2 features a whopping 216 pages of detailed content sure to dazzle any Destiny enthusiast, particularly considering the hype around the forthcoming sequel. A hardcover version of the art book is available for $45.00 USD, which fans can pre-order right now on Amazon.
It appears Bungie and Activision are following in the footsteps of many other gaming franchises in releasing an exclusive art book for a highly buzzed-about title. Just recently, Nintendo and Dark Horse Books launched a massive, 424-page Legend of Zelda art book that spans the entire series’ history, and includes exclusive imagery and concept sketches from the newest installment, Breath of the Wild.
However, where Nintendo sought out a book debut date prior to Breath of the Wild‘s official launch, Bungie and Activision have chosen one that comes after Destiny 2 releases. Perhaps fans will still be intrigued to learn more about the design behind the high-intensity FPS after they’ve poured a few hours into it.
Destiny 2 releases September 8 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Art of Destiny 2 art book releases on October 3.
