MediEvil Remaster Coming to PS4 with 4K Visuals

This year’s PlayStation Experience event was light on surprises, with the exception of one announcement that is sure to please longtime PlayStation fans. As announced at the PlayStation Experience 2017, the classic PS1 game MediEvil is being completely remastered for PlayStation 4, with support for 4K visuals.

The MediEvil PlayStation 4 remaster was announced with a short teaser trailer and very little in the way of details. At the time of this writing, we don’t know when fans can expect the MediEvil remaster, if it will also include content from the second game in the series, and what other improvements there may be besides 4K visuals. While the teaser trailer may not reveal much about the game, though, it should still be enough to excite fans of the long-dormant franchise.

As exciting as this brief teaser trailer for MediEvil is, it would have been nice if it offered fans a little more concrete details. At this point, we don’t even know the studio working on the game, and we can only guess as to other improvements that it may be bringing to the table. The trailer does promise more details “soon,” but it’s possible we won’t see the game again until Sony’s E3 2018 press conference in June.

One thing we know for sure is that Guerrilla Cambridge, the studio that worked on the original MediEvil, its sequel, and the 2005 PSP remake, will not be working on the remaster. That’s because Sony shut down Guerrilla Cambridge earlier this year, not long after the studio launched RIGS: Mechanized Combat League for PlayStation VR to mixed reviews.

Regardless of which studio is working on the MediEvil PS4 remaster, here’s hoping that the team can do it justice. The huge success of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has proven that there is an appetite for PS1 remasters, and if MediEvil on PS4 is successful as well, we may see even more PS1 classics updated for current-generation hardware.

MediEvil is in development for PlayStation 4.
